HIGH STAKES 2 June 25, 2009 WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, West Virginia
REGULAR RULES JJ Biggs vs. Anthony Phoenix PREVIEW: Anthony Phoenix is starting to turn some heads after his revenge victory over Pierce Cavanaugh at Violation 67. With an upcoming barbed wire match against Jason Sandman waiting for him at V68, Phoenix is looking to continue his winning ways at High Stakes. JJ Biggs is a former Premiere Champion that some insiders claim is on his last legs, literally. He wants to end his career on a final World Heavyweight Championship note and this High Stakes match could get him on that path. The winner here will have a nice bargaining chip for future title rankings.
PREMIERE RANKING MATCH Kaito vs. Darkside PREVIEW: Both men have fallen off track the past few weeks in the Premiere Division but look to regain their standing in this match. The sickness in Kaito continues to rise as his last victory over Pierce Cavanaugh did not bring on the cure. Perhaps his last and final option is to reclaim the Premiere Championship that he lost at Playtime’s Over. Darkside on the other hand continues his brother’s quest to take over PWA, one title belt at a time. The Lionhearts have fallen on hard times the past month but now will be the time to strike. This will be a Violation 64 re-match that Kaito won via the blood mist to the eyes. Will the same thing happen twice?
TAG TEAM RANKING MATCH Dysfunction vs. Criminal Intent PREVIEW: Some say Dysfunction is the hottest tag team on the planet. To Tony Field and Ashton Crowley, they’ve always been hot. With impressive victories over some of PWA’s tag team elite, Dysfunction looks to add another name to their list to boast their shot at tag team gold. Criminal Intent on the other hand are coming into their own within the PWA ranks. Cavanaugh continues to surprise those in the locker room, literally, with his bum rush quest. Jackboot has himself a future Atlantic Championship re-match against London McCormack next month. Will Criminal Intent be focused enough for this match or will Dysfunction take one more step to the contendership?
STREET FIGHT Maelstrom vs. Captain Howdy PREVIEW: At Mob Rules 2, Captain Howdy gained a little revenge for his dearest Nadia Snow when he beat Jostrodomus within an inch of his life. The last time anybody saw Jostrodomus, he was strapped to a stretcher and pushed off the entrance ramp into the crowd. Howdy has been boasting his work ever since. Jostrodomus’ best friend Maelstrom is looking to gain a little revenge of his own here. There are just some things you don’t do and pissing off the Human Hellstorm is one of those things. This should be one of the more violent matches of the night.
PWA LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Natalie Snow vs. Cross Recoba © PREVIEW: Natalie Snow etched her name in PWA history when she took home the Light Heavyweight gold at Violation 64. Her title reign didn’t last long as Cross Recoba stated his case by challenging Natalie to a match after he took his frustration out on her twin sister, Nadia. Recoba then reclaimed the Light Heavyweight gold at Mob Rules 2, one year after he pulled off the same feat at Mob Rules 1. In a rematch, Natalie Snow looks to make Recoba’s title reign just as short as hers. Will the former backstage interviewer take home the gold? Or will the Man Worth 1,000 Bullets aim and strike true?
PREMIERE CHAMPIONSHIP - King’s Road Challenge - Va’aiga vs. Freddy Fandango © PREVIEW: Everybody and their mother claimed to be the #1 Contender to the Premiere Championship. Everybody forgot one man: the loud mouth Maori Badass. The 350-pound Va’aiga has hit his stride over the past two months, earning victories over some of PWA’s up and comers. But Freddy Fandango could be the hottest up and comer in the promotion right now. Surprising all when he rolled through the Premiere Tournament to grab the title, Fandango has not looked back since. In a re-match from Violation 64, this match should prove to be a heavy hitting affair.
TOWER OF TERROR Jack Gaither vs. Jason Sandman PREVIEW: Jason Sandman has always played by his own rules. Recent Board attempts to reign in Sandman have proven unsuccessful as he continues to do what he wants, when he wants. Re-instated by Co-Commissioner Gaither, Jason Sandman took the woman to task and showed her what a mistake that was by taking out Jack Gaither from behind. Ever since then, Jack Gaither has been the Board’s hand in the matter, challenging Sandman to a match. Taking place under Hell-in-a-Cell type rules, the Board of Directors have thrown a little extra incentive into this one. High above the cage will be $1 million dollars and a shot at any title in the PWA. Will Jack Gaither strike rich again or will Jason Sandman use this match to showcase just how dangerous and unpredictable he is?
PWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP - Elimination Rules - Omar Owens vs. Chris Michaels vs. Jake Keeton vs. Nighthawk © PREVIEW: Whatever your opinion of Terminus is, you have to at least acknowledge the standard he has set in PWA as the man. When he lost the Championship at Conflict 1 in a match against Chris Michaels and Nighthawk, the future contenders lined up for a shot. Omar Owens claims he had his shot coming at High Stakes weeks ago against Terminus when he pinned the man to the mat at Violation 62. There was no way he was going to get cut off at the pass. Jake Keeton on the other hand never received his much earned title shot at Mob Rules 2 when Wren Chesney barred him competing for the highest gold in the land. With newly won Board approval, the All-American Nightmare won’t have to worry about being banned for this one. Chris Michaels boasted the Era’s claim that Terminus wasn’t the man we all thought he was and says he proved it by dethroning him at Conflict 1 and putting him on the shelf. The Hotshot knows he can do this again at High Stakes. PWA World Heavyweight Champion Nighthawk finds himself in a tough spot only two weeks removed from the biggest win in his career. The only thing that works in his favor is this match being under elimination rules. To be the Champion you must beat the Champion. Only one will walk out with the gold, the respect, and the future of PWA in their hands.
PWA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Ladder Match - The Era vs. M&M PREVIEW: In the main event of the night, the PWA fans get a treat with this Mob Rules 2 re-match between the Era and M&M. Right now the Tag Team Division is at it’s peak with these two teams continuing the roll they’ve been on since the tournament. Bryce Michaels has turned heads in PWA and seems to be regaining his deadly form. He can hit that C-4 from any position. London McCormack shocked the world last month when he pulled double-duty and took home both the Atlantic Title and a Tag Team strap. Now he has half the work this night. Chris Michaels is the one pulling double-duty this time as he battles for the World Heavyweight Championship just before this main event match. Will he have enough left in the tank? And Dade Davis is coming off an ankle injury at the hands of McCormack’s Flux Capacitor. Will he be in good enough shape to climb the ladder and take the Tag Team Championship home? The odds favor M&M but you can never count out The Era.

PWA Headquarters Washington, D.C. April 29, 2009
With the successful Euro Tour 2009 nearing completion, the Board of Directors met at PWA headquarters this afternoon in Washington, D.C. for their monthly roundtable. Wrestling insider Max Porter received a special invite to witness the meeting to report any developments for PWA fans.
Board members, John Harkes, Gil Silver, Demitre Lionheart, Victor Cornelius Roberts, and Nikki Cortez were in attendance. Daz Van Dyke appeared via videophone from an undisclosed location. Also in attendance were the two Co-Commissioners, Wren Chesney and Samantha Teague-Gaither.
Max Porter reports discussions were rather heated from the beginning of the meeting following the aftermath of Violation 62. Wren Chesney was quick to ask for Jack Gaither’s unconditional release following his disqualification loss against Darkside after using his former football coach’s jersey as a weapon to choke out his opponent.
“Mrs. Gaither seemed rather distraught throughout the entire meeting”, reports Porter. “She defended Jack Gaither on many fronts and referred to Chesney as a ‘bitch’ and ‘slut’ multiple times.”
It appears as if the two Co-Commissioners are back to hating each other once again after their booked Kaito vs. Jason Sandman lumberjack match blew up in their faces. Demitre Lionheart had no issues with retaining Jack Gaither as he added:
“…Darkside enjoyed beating Gaither both physically and mentally. Don’t fire him. Jose’ Jose’ needs the competition!”
From there Samantha Teague-Gaither went into a long verbal rant on how she is going to sue the Lionheart’s and have Darkside arrested for desecrating the grave marker of Coach Reilly.
Order was called by John Harkes as he changed the subject to the financial report. Attendance is down somewhat from last year. Merchandise sales are up following the release of new wrestler and PPV DVDs as well as 21st Century Rat Pack gear.
Daz Van Dyke brought up the idea of releasing Hammerfist Security from their security detail contract, saying:
“Security has been lacking on the European Tour since day one. Lack of security has kept me away from events because I can’t trust anybody to keep London McCormack and Captain Howdy off my back! The PWA is too hostile right now. Somebody needs to take control of the situation.”
Regaining control of the promotion was a big topic at the meeting as both Co-Commissioners sniped at each other for the random attacks by wrestlers backstage and at ringside. Wren Chesney applauded Captain Howdy’s assault on Jostrodomus and refused to suspend him. She also applauded the many attacks on Jack Gaither the past few weeks.
Once again the meeting broke down as the two Co-Commissioners’ verbal jabs turned into a physical altercation over Jack Gaither and Chesney’s recent failed relationship with Jostrodomus.
“I’ve never seen anything like it”, added Max Porter to his report. “They were talking about reigning in the promotion and then all of a sudden the two Co-Commissioners needed to be reigned in. After witnessing this, I have no idea who is running this company.”
The two Co-Commissioners were dismissed from the meeting by security. Demitre Lionheart needed an icepack after taking a nasty low blow from Mrs. Gaither as he tried to break up the altercation. Daz Van Dyke laughed hysterically at the scene on the videophone and blamed the entire Board for bypassing him as the replacement Commissioner months ago.
Gil Silver called the altercation between Chesney and Gaither ‘unacceptable’. He left the meeting saying there were only two options he saw coming from all of this:
“We can do one of two things the way I see it. We can fire them both and interview for a new Commissioner or we can separate them both and give them each a television show to oversee.”
Porter asked Silver for additional comment on what he said about the possibility of another PWA television production event. Gil Silver replied:
“I’ll be lookin’ into it. As soon as I leave this buildin’ I’ll make some calls to form a review into the possibility of another PWA television show.”
The Board meeting came to an end after that with many things left to discuss remaining on the table. The situation on Jason Sandman’s impending suspension and PWA World Heavyweight Championship spot at Mob Rules 2 did not get discussed. Nikki Cortez called for the Board to come together at Violation 63 to “resolve the Sandman situation” so the promotion could move forward.
Jason Sandman remains suspended for the Violation 63 event in Amsterdam following his attempted assault on Wren Chesney at Violation 62. Sandman will be backstage to discuss the incident with the Board of Directors, where his future with PWA hangs in the balance.
